Lax Parents (or Lax-parents-to-be)!

Welcome to the Winchester Youth Lacrosse Registration Page!

Spring Registration is now OPEN.  We are looking forward to another great Spring of Winchester Youth Lax.  Last year we had record numbers participate, and we are hoping to increase our headcount even more this Spring.

This Spring our players play more games, get great coaching, and become a better player and teammate.

Grade-based details are located within the registration link for that grade.

Please see my letter posted on our website detailing some big changes to our travel league (www.winchesterlax.org)

For 5th-8th graders, tryout times and dates will be finalized by January 17th and posted on our website.

If you are buying equipment for the Spring - please buy BLACK helmet(s).  If your son plays club lacrosse, please invest in a BLACK helmet to wear during travel games.  We cannot force you to do this, but strongly recommend it.

IF YOU ARE NOT A WINCHESTER RESIDENT, OR HAVE NOT ALREADY RECEIVED A FORMAL WAIVER, YOU CANNOT PLAY FOR WYL WITHOUT A WAIVER FROM THE TPL.  EMAIL ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTING IN PLAYING FOR WYL, BUT ARE NOT A WINCHESTER RESIDENT.

WYL Program Mission and Goals.  Please click HERE to review our mission and goals.

2020 Spring WYL House League (K - 2) - The Young Buck Division

The House League.  The WYL House League is for Kindergarten – 2nd Grade.  This is our biggest group of lacrosse players each Spring.  We strive to make the House League FUN.

The goal is to have fun, get the kids to start to like and learn the game of lacrosse, and improve as a player.

  • Weather permitting, the season begins the week of April 6th.
  • House League players are divided into three, grade-based divisions: The Kindergarten Division, the 1st Grade Division & the 2nd Grade Division.
  • Within each grade, teams (that are as evenly weighted as possible) are established for “Game Day” (which will be Sundays).  Our first Game Day will be the Sunday just before everyone goes back to school after April VK (April 26th).
  • Grades practice together as an entire grade (so-called “gang practices”) once each week, with common instruction across the Grade from parent coaches. Practices will be for 1-hour during the school week (Mon-Fri; 5 or 5:30) on a field location and day TBD.
  • There is an additional, but optional, skills clinics (goalie, shooting, faceoffs) on Saturdays in April and May.
  • During practices, players may be periodically separated based on skill level to allow for newer players to develop basic skills, while allowing more experienced players to advance their skill and game skills.
  • Exact times for practices and games will be established during the Winter (but as soon as possible).
  • Second graders will participate in a season ending tournament both internally and against other towns.
  • The cost of the program is unchanged from 2019.

Players Will Receive:

2020 Spring WYL Grade 3 - Small Ball/Travel Lax Division

3rd & 4th Grades - Town Pride League, Small Ball/Travel Division

  • Our 3rd and 4th Grade groups participate in the Town Pride League (http://tpllax.com/).
  • Weather permitting, the season begins the week of April 6th.
  • Games are played on a so-called “small ball” (sideline to sideline), playing 6 v 6 with each team having a goalie (so 7 v 7).  Games are competitive, but scoring is only kept informally.  Rules are in place to avoid blow outs.
  • Players are divided into evenly weighted teams.  TPL rules requires that game-day teams are evenly constructed.  In order to level out teams, coaches can and will move kids around.  It is unlikely they will stay on the same team or with the same coach all season (on game days).
  • Two (2) practices per week in the early evening.  Players will all practice together as a grade, rotating through separate coaching stations.
  • During practices, players’ skill level will be informally established so that we can (a) comply with the TPL rules and create even teams, and (b) periodically group the boys by skill level to allow beginners to hone basic skills, and allow more experienced players to advance.
  • We will run skill clinics (goalie, shooting and faceoff) on Saturdays in April and May (weather permitting).
  • TPL games on Sundays (make up games may be on Saturdays).  New in 2020 - all game days will be structured like little jamborees.  Meaning, we will play multiple towns on each Sunday - which will be awesome.  More games means better players.
  • The cost of 3rd and 4th grade lacrosse was increased by less than 3% from 2019.
